If time can change everything, then this minute can also change things. When midnight comes, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date (Oyster Perpetual Day-Date) becomes a bridge between the past and the future, symbolizing the outstanding achievements of the past and the infinite possibilities of the future.
Innovation and dignity
Classic was born
The 1950s witnessed many significant economic, political, and social changes. The distance between people is shortened, and the speed of information transmission also increases daily. Led by Hans Wilsdorf’s philosophy that ‘the date and the day of the week are both important,’ Rolex is committed to developing a watch that can display the day of the week and is suitable for everyday wear. The day-date model, which came out in 1956, is known as the “watch of the head” of the Oyster Perpetual series, further sublimating the values of the Datejust when it was launched in 1945. The day-date type has a distinctive, innovative design. The curved window at noon shows the whole week’s writing. The design is unique and easy to identify. The day-date model is designed for those who need complete control over their schedules.
unique and versatile
The day date speaks the language of the wearer.
Although the day of the week is the same in all regions of the world, the day of the week is displayed differently by language. The day-date type uses a variety of writing systems, including Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese, and even the Geez affixed text used in the Horn of Africa, which fully reflects the wearer’s cultural background.
As an international and personalized watch, the day-date model is initially available in 25 different languages: Arabic, Basque, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Ethiopian, Persian, Finnish English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Moroccan, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Later, Chinese was added in 1973, increasing to 26 languages.

The watch is easy to identify, especially the classic President (President) strap, whose name and pivotal wearer make the day-date model a veritable ‘President’s watch.’
As a symbol of dignity and personal achievement, outstanding people have always favored the Day-Date. They change the world in their field with firm commitment, outstanding performance, excellent quality, and creative talent.
Rolex spokespersons who have a close relationship with the day-date type include golfers Arnold Palmer (Arnold Palmer), Jack Nicklaus (Jack Nicklaus), and Gary Player (Gary Player), known as the “Golf Big Three.”), American skier Lindsey Vonn, Swiss tennis player Roger Federer and American filmmaker Martin Scorsese.

Elegance meets technical excellence.
The week-date calendar launched in 1956 was the first in the world. It was the world’s first self-winding waterproof chronometer precision timepiece with a curved window at noon to display the complete writing of the week.
The watch is only made of precious metals such as 18K gold, 18K white gold, 18K eternal rose gold, or 950 platinum, and is matched with a classic head-of-state strap. Its various styles of dials allow the wearer to show his personality easily.
It combines noble temperament and the eternal pursuit of excellent watchmaking craftsmanship, perfectly interpreting the essence of it.
“Midnight Miracle”
perfect precision
When midnight comes, the day of the week and the calendar display will change instantly in the small window on the dial. This watchmaking technique, known as the “Midnight Miracle,” is the result of years of research; from 1950 to 1955, Rolex registered four patents for its timepieces with day and calendar displays.
President strap
elegant details
The three-link President-type strap is specially designed for the well-known watch model Oyster Perpetual Day-Date launched in 1956. It is only cast in 18K gold or 950 platinum. It is the exclusive strap for the Day-Date and precious metal Datejust.
The Führer bracelet is equipped with a concealed crown buckle and opens with an articulated replica Rolex crown, which completes the aesthetics and functionality of this bracelet. The strap is embedded with ceramic components, which are more flexible and durable. The concealed lugs of the strap ensure a visually seamless connection between the belt and the case.
Triangular fluted outer ring
The Platinum Challenge
In 2022, the Day-Date 40 will launch a 950 platinum model, paired with a triangular pitted outer ring made of precious and rare platinum for the first time.
The triangular pit pattern is the cornerstone of the brand’s aesthetics. It originally served a practical purpose, helping to screw the outer ring to the case and ensure the watch’s water resistance. With the rapid development of waterproof technology, the triangular pit pattern has gradually become a purely aesthetic design. In the past, the day-date outer ring was only cast in 18K gold, but now a precious 950 platinum model has been launched.
Platinum, which shines with a charming white luster, is difficult to process, especially precision processing. Rolex has developed an innovative process for this purpose, casting a triangular pitted outer ring in 950 platinum. The exquisite fluted shape and shiny finish effect can be called a model of technology.
Rolex’s unique craftsmanship is designed for noble watches.
36 or 40 mm Oyster case
waterproof symbol
The Day-Date Oyster case, with a 36 or 40-mm diameter and guaranteed water resistance to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet), is a model of robustness and elegance. The middle case is cast from a solid block of 18K gold or 950 platinum. Rolex watchmakers use brand-specific special tools to tighten the finely pitted bottom cover to seal the case, so only watchmakers authorized by Rolex can open the possibility to access the movement. The double buckle lock winding crown has a dual waterproof system firmly screwed to the case. The outer ring is available in triangular fluted or diamond-set styles. The mirror surface is made of anti-reflective sapphire crystal, which is hard to scratch. There is a small window convex lens at 3 o’clock to enlarge the calendar for easy reading. The day-date waterproof Oyster case provides the best protection for movement.
rolex foundry
casting precious metals
Whether 18K yellow gold, 18K white gold, or 18K Everose gold, the day-date gold alloy is exclusively produced in the Rolex Gold Foundry.
Because 24K pure gold is too deformable, it is unsuitable for watch components. Pure gold must be mixed with other metals to make it more complex and durable. 18K gold came into being. Watchmakers consider this noble alloy composed of 750‰ (thousandth) pure gold a treasure. By adding different amounts of silver, copper, platinum, or palladium, different types of 18K gold can be extracted: gold, pink gold, or white gold.
The rigor of the alloy casting process affects its quality and properties. Therefore, smelting is very important in the production of precious metal luxury replica watches. This is the first step in producing a gold look for moderate cases, case backs, bezels, and strap components.
Caliber 3255 Perpetual Movement
Movements at the forefront of watchmaking technology
The Day-Date 36 and Day-Date 40 are equipped with the 3255 self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed by Rolex. The movement adopts several patents, perfectly demonstrating Rolex’s superb technology, and is excellent in precision, power reserve, shock resistance, wearing comfort, and reliability.
The balance spring assembly of the 3255 movements is equipped with a large inertia fine-tuning balance wheel, and its inertial oscillation period is precisely adjusted with gold fine-tuning nuts. A height-adjustable balance splint firmly supports The balance sprung assembly to improve shock resistance. The balance spring assembly of the movement is also equipped with the high-performance Paraflex cushioning device designed and patented by Rolex.
This movement is equipped with Rolex’s patented Chronergy escapement system, made of nickel-phosphorus alloy, which is efficient, reliable, and immune to magnetic field interference.
The 3255 movements are equipped with a self-winding component containing a Rolex perpetual oscillating weight. This oscillating weight uses the energy generated by the swing of the wearer’s wrist to wind the mainspring continuously. The structure of the barrel and the excellent efficiency of the escapement system increase the power reserve of this movement to about 70 hours.
Only watchmakers authorized by Rolex have the opportunity to see the day-date movement. This movement has been exquisitely polished and decorated, reflecting the spirit of Rolex’s meticulous quality and excellence.
PARACHROM hairspring
Optimized and stable unique balance spring
The 3255 movements are equipped with an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring, made of a paramagnetic alloy cast by Rolex, which is not disturbed by magnetic fields and is still very stable even if the temperature changes. The hairspring is also equipped with a Rolex end ring to ensure that the hairspring can still maintain regularity in any position.
The surface treatment technology directly affects the blue color of the Parachrom hairspring. This technology has been used in Parachrom hairsprings since 2005, which not only enhances the stability of the hairspring but also highlights the dignity of the watch. According to watchmaking tradition, only the hairsprings of the most precise and precious watch movements are blue.
The Parachrom hairspring not only enhances the stability of the hairspring but also highlights the dignity of the watch. According to watchmaking tradition, only the hairsprings of the most precise and precious watch movements are blue.
Day-Date, Superlative Chronometer Certification
Like all Rolex watches, the Day-Date was certified by Rolex in 2015 as a Superlative Chronometer. This unique designation certifies that each eye from the Rolex Manufacture has successfully passed a series of tests in the Rolex Laboratory. The watch is tested after it is assembled, and the movement is installed in the case to ensure that the eye can perform excellently in precision, power reserve, waterproofing, and automatic winding when worn. The green seal symbolizes the precision timepiece of the Superlative Observatory. This seal accompanies every Rolex watch and comes with a five-year global warranty.
The precision of each movement has been awarded the chronometer certification by the Swiss Precision Timepiece Testing Center (COSC). After the campaign is installed in the case, Rolex conducts a second test on the movement to ensure that its accuracy meets the standards and is stricter than the standards for precision timepieces certified by the Observatory. The acceptable average error of the Rolex Superlative Observatory precision timepiece is within plus or minus two seconds per day. The precision pursued by Rolex is stricter than that certified by the Swiss official Observatory.
This Superlative Observatory precision timepiece certification test is carried out with precision instruments specially developed by Rolex after the movement is installed in the case. Rolex simulates the actual situation of wearing a watch in an exclusive way to test the watch’s accuracy closer to real-life conditions. This series of fully automatic tests will also try the performance of all Rolex watches in terms of water resistance, automatic winding, and power reserve. These tests are carried out systematically, complementing the research, development, and production testing to ensure that the watch is reliable, robust, anti-magnetic and anti-shock.
